Providing loving homes for children
During these tough economic times, it seems everyone is cutting back, spending less and watching their dollars just a little more closely. Naturally, these are also times when adoption seems less feasible for some families, due to costs associated with the process. While the gap of time between adoption and receiving the adoption tax credit may seem to stretch on, there is hope—hope that, somehow, blessings will be bestowed upon those who choose to provide a loving home for children in need. As we hear so frequently in this field, God often provides for those who open their hearts.
While speaking with a family, one mother told us that she and her husband stepped forward in faith during their adoption process, unsure of how each expense would be paid for yet sure that each would. Through creative fundraisers, generous donors, and the support of family and friends, she was astounded how money seemed to come just as they needed it. The money was never in excess, she said, but it was always just enough. This woman was grateful and blessed, indeed, yet her case was far from rare.
If you are considering adoption at this time, you don’t necessarily have to put your family on hold because of the lagging economy. Grants, loans, federal and state tax credits, and more are available, and AAI’s staff is always happy to provide information or answer questions about any of them. These are also great times to get creative and put together fun, beneficial fundraisers. On the other end of the spectrum, if you’ve already completed your adoption and feel it in your heart to give to the cause of adoption—whether financially or through volunteering—AAI welcomes support for a variety of causes and to continue its many programs. Please also see our “Wish List,” an article that describes some of the areas where extra funding is needed.
This month, while reading about a family that overcame economic hurdles, also hear another family’s adoption story from Russia, and how one family opened their home to an infant through our African-American program. In our agency news, learn how hosting a child in your home may be the perfect first step toward your adoption process and about an urgent need for families in several of our adoption programs.
Enjoy the rest of your summer and blessings to you and your family!
Best Wishes,
