Hosts of Hope 2009—summer program update and upcoming opportunities
We were excited to welcome a Hosts of Hope summer group who arrived from Russia in July! There were seven children in this group, ranging in age from five to twelve years old. During their 10-day stay in the U.S., the children participated in a variety of activities, including a group picnic at Potter Park in Lansing, Michigan. A huge thank-you is extended to the families who hosted these children—and to the donors who supported this program financially—so that it could take place! It is our hope that all of the children who participate in the Hosts of Hope programs will make a connection which will lead to a permanent adoptive placement. (AAI hosting programs in 2007 and 2008 resulted in nearly 95 percent of the participating children later being placed into permanent homes.)
Plans are underway for a second group from Ukraine to visit in September, however Michigan host families are needed! Children participating in the host programs are typically four to fourteen years old and visit the U.S. for 10 days, staying in host family homes.
To learn more about this program or to apply to host a child in September, visit our web page at http://www.HostsOfHope.com.
Additionally, those who are interested in hosting a child next summer or in supporting this program financially or through volunteering are encouraged to contact Larissa Koedyker, Hosts of Hope program coordinator, at 616.667.0921 or at coordinator@hostsofhope.com.
Consider the Waiting Children adoption programs
Our Waiting Children programs are active with families that have signed up and are linked with children, but even more families are needed! We currently have children ages eight months old and older available through our Waiting Children adoption programs in China and Eastern Europe.
Children available through these programs are healthy children over the age of three or six, depending on the country; and children of all ages with special medical needs, ranging from minor, correctable issues to more moderate issues.
Visit our Waiting Children photolisting for information on children who are currently waiting, but also know that there are many other children available. Families who sign up for the Waiting Children programs can either be matched with a child from the photolisting or have a child referred to them after application. (A password is required for the China Waiting Children photolisting).
To get started with the process, call 1.800.677.2367 to schedule a free in-person or phone consultation, request a free adoption information packet, or attend a free adoption information meeting.
