Affording Adoption
Support the adoption tax credit
Despite the current downturn of the world market, children and adoptive families shouldn’t suffer—help them by urging your Senator and Congressional representative to support the adoption tax credit!
Currently, a tax credit allows many families to take a credit of up to $10,000+ against their federal income taxes. If you or someone you know has taken this credit, you know just how much this helps to offset the expenses of adoption. Without Senate support, however, this credit will end in 2010.
The Adoption Tax Relief Guarantee of 2005 was introduced to the U.S. House of Representatives in January of 2005 and to the Senate in February of 2005. Last year, the House passed legislation to make the credit permanent, but the adoption tax credit stalled in the Senate. Take a firsthand approach by writing to your Congressional representatives, and make this credit a law!
