A Rich Man

I’ve often wondered what makes a man truly rich—if it’s the car that he drives, the amount of money he makes, or something more.

While expensive vehicles and large bank accounts do make a man wealthy, I don’t believe that they make a man rich. I would rather believe, as an unknown author once said, that “A truly rich man is one whose children run into his arms when his hands are empty.” A rich man is, essentially, a loving and devoted father.

To a young child, a father is the source of love, protection, and strength. His arms are the catapult that playfully toss the child into the air and an elevator to the seat with an aerial view upon his shoulders. When the child is older, a father is a guide, a source of advice, and a leader by example. As Clarence Budington Kelland once said about his father, “He didn’t tell me how to live; he lived, and let me watch him do it.”

There is perhaps no greater joy on earth than that of being a parent. It is the most wonderful job imaginable, but it can also be one of the most difficult. While God sometimes blesses families with children who seem quite easy to raise, at other times, he places children in families who need extra love and attention to reach their full potential.

In recognition of Father’s Day, this newsletter features stories about two men who became parents of children with special needs-one through AAI’s domestic program, and one through AAI’s China Special Waiting Children program. In this month’s newsletter, you’ll also learn about how to ask your employer for adoption benefits, discover a new donation opportunity, and read about all that’s new at AAI, including our international adoption program in Kazakhstan!

Blessings this Father’s Day.

Best Wishes,
