Meet Junior, a special boy waiting in Guatemala
The staff at AAI is reaching out on behalf of a special little boy who is waiting for his forever family. Little Junior is a wonderful, happy, well-behaved six year old boy with speech delay and some special needs.
Junior has lived with his foster mother, Tina, since he was two years old. She has cared for him extremely well and he is very loved and happy. But Tina and her husband are getting older and no longer have the ability to take care of a small child. Very soon he will be forced to leave the home he knows and be taken to an orphanage. Since Junior has had such personal care for the entirety of his life, there is concern at his being institutionalized.
Hoping for a wonderful family
Guatemala consultants Jan Van Drie and Kim Batts have known Junior since his birth and have hoped for a wonderful adoptive family for him. “He will need some speech therapy and perhaps some special education at least for a while to reach his full potential,” said Jan Van Drie, Guatemala Program Manager, “but he is a very sweet child who is very capable of giving and receiving love.”
After their trip to Guatemala in 2004, the consultants were happy to report that Junior was running, playing, laughing, sleeping well, eating well, understanding well, and very affectionate and helpful. Things continued to improve as his 2005 report stated that he loved soccer and going to the local Protestant church. While singing songs he would clap his hands. He knew his numbers, colors, could follow instructions very well, and could name many objects. He was shy, but very loving and affectionate with his foster mother. In 2006, Junior was playing football, cars, and playing well with other children. He was sweet and obedient. He is clean, has good table manners, and loves to eat!
The amount of time before Junior is sent to an orphanage is not known, but it is our hope and prayer that when he leaves his loving foster home it will be to join his forever family. Do you perhaps have a place in your life for this special little boy?
