October Adoption Program Update
October 8, 2007
For families just beginning the adoption process, we know that choosing an adoption program can be difficult. This update is a reflection of what is currently happening in all of our programs. Due to the nature of adoption, this information may change at any time, but we hope that this will help you to determine which program is best for you as you begin the adoption process.
DOMESTIC ADOPTION:
Michigan families are still needed for the African-American and biracial adoption program. Interested families are encouraged to call.
INTERNATIONAL ADOPTION:
AAI accepts applications from families nationwide for our international adoption programs. Free 30-minute international adoption consultations are available by phone or at our offices. Please call for details.
China Adoption Program:
We are still offering a $500 program fee reduction for families that have previously completed an adoption from China through AAI or any other agency.* Currently, the waiting time from submission of dossier to bringing children home is around 22 months. Families who are discouraged by the waiting time may want to consider the China Special Waiting Children program or programs in Kazakhstan, Nepal, or Russia, where Asian, Asian/Indian, and Eurasian children are available.
*This fee reduction does not apply to the China Special Waiting Children Program and is subject to change without notice.
China Special Waiting Children Adoption Program:
We still have several children who were referred to us in September who are not matched with adoptive families. Please visit our waiting children page for pictures and information on children who are currently available.
Ethiopia Adoption Program:
Our Ethiopia program is very busy and we currently have over 50 families in various stages of the process. Children available through our Ethiopia program range in age from infants to 15 years old.
Guatemala Adoption Program:
As of October 1, AAI has closed intake of new clients for Guatemala, but we have many families currently in the proccess of completing adoptions from Guatemala.
Haiti Adoption Program:
Our Haiti adoption program is opening soon! Children available from Haiti range in age from infant to 15 years old. The time from submission of dossier to bringing your child home is approximately two years.
Kazakhstan Adoption Program:
There is a lot of interest in this program, and families are encouraged by the current stability of the Kazakhstan program. Potential children from Kazakhstan can be as young as seven months. Families who are discouraged by the waiting time for China may want to consider this program as children are Eurasian, Asian, or Caucasian in appearance.
Nepal Adoption Program:
This program is currently moving slowly due to the proposed law changes. Families interested in adopting from Nepal are encouraged to call for more information and check the waiting children page for information on available children.
Russia Adoption Program:
AAI received a permanent license from Russia in July of 2007 and we are still one of only twelve accredited agencies in the U.S.! Our Russia program is very active, and we consistently have an average of 10 families traveling each month. The time from formal application to bringing your child home is approximately 12 months. Currently, there is a need for families for boys of all ages. We are accepting applications from families nationwide. Families with completed home studies are especially encouraged to apply.
Ukraine Adoption Program:
There is a lot of interest in the Ukraine program. Children available from Ukraine are 18 months and older and are Caucasian in appearance. Congratulations to our Ukraine program coordinator who arrived home from Ukraine in September with her newly adopted daughter!
