November Adoption Program Update
November 9, 2007
For families just beginning the adoption process, we know that choosing an adoption program can be difficult. This update is a reflection of what is currently happening in all of our programs. Due to the nature of adoption, this information may change at any time, but we hope that this will help you to determine which program is best for you as you begin the adoption process.
DOMESTIC ADOPTION:
Michigan families are still needed for the African-American and biracial adoption program. Interested families are encouraged to call 616.667.0677.
INTERNATIONAL ADOPTION:
NOTE: As of December 1, 2007, the November fee reduction offer is no longer available to families who have not already submitted preliminary applications. Families who submitted preliminary applications during November of 2007 must attend an IAA meeting and submit a completed formal application to an AAI office no later than December 21, 2007 to receive the offer.
AAI works with families nationwide for our international adoption programs. In honor of National Adoption Awareness Month, we are offering a 20% reduction off the AAI international program fee for families signing up for any of our international programs in November of 2007. Please call 616.667.0921 or visit our news item for details.
China Adoption Program:
We received some great news for China adoptions. We were informed by CCAA that families currently in the process of adopting from China may now do a simultaneous adoption through another international program. Because of the lengthening waiting time for China, families just beginning the process may want to consider applying to both China and another program with a shorter process time simultaneously, and with the 20% fee reduction in November, now would be a great time to do this!
China Special Waiting Children Adoption Program:
We still have several children who were referred to us in September who are not matched with adoptive families. Please visit our waiting children page for pictures and information on children who are currently available.
Ethiopia Adoption Program:
Our Ethiopia program is very strong and we currently have over 50 families in the adoption process. Boasting a short process time (averaging six to ten months from submission of dossier to bringing the child home) and lower costs as compared to other international adoption programs, Ethiopia is becoming a wonderful choice for many of our adoptive families.
Guatemala Adoption Program:
As of October 1, AAI has closed intake of new clients for Guatemala, but we have many families currently in the proccess of completing adoptions from Guatemala.
Haiti Adoption Program:
AAI is thrilled to announce the official opening of its international adoption program in Haiti! This program has flexible requirements, accepts single female applicants, and is one of the least expensive international programs. The time from submission of dossier to bringing your child home is approximately two years.
Kazakhstan Adoption Program:
Adoption from Kazakhstan has gained a lot of interest because of the overall stability of the program and the opportunities that families have to experience the culture of this country during the adoption process. Children available can be as young as seven months and are Eurasian, Asian, or Caucasian in appearance and families may wait as little as four months from dossier submission to traveling to meet their potential child!
Nepal Adoption Program:
We are still waiting for the new adoption law in Nepal which is expected to be very positive for future adoptive families. Families interested in adopting from Nepal are encouraged to call for more information and check the waiting children page for information on available children.
Russia Adoption Program:
AAI is one of only 12 U.S. agencies with a permanent, non-expiring license to work in Russia and we have been working in Russia since 1994. Our Russia program is very active, but we are still in need of families for boys of all ages!
Ukraine Adoption Program:
As one of the least expensive Eastern European adoption programs, our Ukraine program has gained a lot of interest from prospective adoptive families. Our Ukraine program coordinator has first-hand experience of the adoption process and can walk families carefully through the adoption process. Currently, the process time for dossier preparation is three to four months and the process time for submission of dossier to traveling to Ukraine is approximately three to five months, making the entire process only six to nine months from application to traveling to bring your child home.
