Learn about Adopting an Older Child
May 9, 2007
NOTE: This meeting has been cancelled. Please call 517.327.1388 with questions.
Are you a new parent of an older adopted child, or are you interested in becoming one? Then you won’t want to miss a seminar on parenting children between the ages of two and ten who are adopted internationally on Thursday, June 7 at 7pm at Adoption Associates, Inc. in Lansing.
This presentation will include information on what to expect with your child’s behavior, how to help your child during his or her transition, and advice on preparing your extended family for the adoption. Anyone who is considering adopting a child, or has recently adopted an older child, is encouraged to attend.
Laura Schwartz, a social worker and adoptive parent, will be the main presenter. She’ll be accompanied by a panel of parents who have also adopted older children.
Laura and her husband, Patrick, adopted an infant daughter and five year old son in 2004 from Guatemala. They learned a great deal about helping an older child adjust, and Laura wants to share this information with other parents so that they can better help their children transition to a new family, a new language, a new culture, and a new way of life.
