Erik and Rebecca
Our adoption story begins like so many other families. We got married and planned to have children within the next few years. But as the years went by without the news of pregnancy to share with our friends and family, we began to wonder if our dreams of becoming parents would ever come true. We turned to the medical community to assist us, but only found more disappointing news when the doctors told us that the chances were about next to zero that we would be able to conceive a child. Our hearts were crushed, and probably the only thing that helped us through that tough time in our lives was the passion in our hearts to become parents and the willingness to do whatever it took to live out our plan.
The moment that we began to think about adopting children a huge weight was lifted from our hearts. We were filled with so much hope about becoming parents again, the type of hope that we had not felt for several years. And as the year and a half ticked by in finalizing the adoption of our two Russian sweethearts, the wait seemed so painless because we knew the final result—We would be parents.
Looking back, the only thing we wished we could have changed was just how long it took us to realize that our calling was to be adoptive parents. For us, being adoptive parents has not only allowed us to fulfill one our lifelong dreams, but now we are given the amazing opportunity to fulfill the hopes and dreams of two bright and beautiful children. We will be ever thankful for the help and support of AAI in making one of our dreams possible.
