We definitely wanted a local adoption agency to work with us, and after looking and asking about some in the area, we decided to contact Adoption Associates, Inc.
We attended their first information meeting, and were really impressed with the services they provide to prospective adoptive parents and with the friendliness of all of the staff at AAI. We were presented to Kris Burow, our social worker, and from the moment we met, we immediately “clicked” and felt that Adoption Associates was the perfect agency to help us in our journey to become parents. We were also assigned to Carol Jonkman from the Jenison office as our International Consultant. Kris and Carol never left us feeling alone during the process of becoming parents.
Adopting our beautiful son, Carlos, from Guatemala is definitely the most wonderful and fulfilling thing we have ever done. The process was not easy, and there were many times when my husband and I were frustrated, nervous, worried, etc, but we always got an answer to all of our questions and concerns from AAI staff; they were always calm and friendly.
Our adoption journey lasted exactly 9 months. I (Maria) received a phone call at work from Carol Jonkman, just 2 days after little Carlos was born – the moment Carol started talking and telling me that there was a baby boy, I knew in my heart that he was my baby!
We traveled to Guatemala in February 2003 and met Carlos for the first time the next day. He was not a picture anymore – he was REAL! Carlos recently turned two, and every day is a celebration to have him with us. He is a very happy and active little boy, and we look forward to working again with Adoption Associates to become a bigger family in the near future.
